Eventful times mean challenges for 2009
Financial and economic crises, bankruptcies and other bad news shake the markets every day. It is just as well that in such eventful times there are partners who you can rely on and who are prepared to face these challenges.
Bayer Sheet Europe GmbH (BSE) is one such partner who is tackling these challenges. Integrated in the worldwide network of the Semi-Finished Products Unit at Bayer Material Science AG (BMS), we can offer you the very highest quality and safety and have the power to hold our ground in the market. Starting with the raw material processed by us to our final product, the plastic sheets.
This group of consolidated companies under the big Bayer umbrella includes, apart from Bayer Sheet Europe with its 4 sites in Nera Montoro (Italy), Tielt (Belgium), Weiterstadt and Darmstadt (Germany),
- Sheffield Plastics Inc. in Massachusetts, USA (see also the article in this newsletter)
- Bayer Sheet China (BSC) near Peking
- Bayer Sheet Korea (BSK) near Pusan
- LaserLite near Melbourne in Australia
Regional differences, together with the needs and imagination of our customers and employees, define the product range of the individual sites around the globe. Standard production includes transparent or translucent coloured solid sheets, multi wall sheets and corrugated sheets made of the raw materials Makrolon® (polycarbonate), Vivak® (polyester PETG) and Axpet® (polyester PET). The range is complemented with solid sheets of Bayloy® (coloured PC) and Bayblend® (PC/ABS). The sheets in this product range are opaque and can be easily thermoformed and are available in different colours and surface structures.
There is the right sheet for every application for the right solution to every problem.
At the moment you will hear the sentence everywhere - in one form or another- "A happy and successful New Year". Experience has taught us that the hardworking among us can expect fortune and success if they set themselves a clear goal and focus on it. In this spirit, we are looking forward to the coming year and wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a good start to the New Year.
We wish you all health, happiness and success for 2009.

Managing Director Bayer Sheet Europe GmbH
Grey skies, low temperatures. That is when you think of sunnier climes. The Caribbean is a long way away but not so the Erding Spa, before the gates of Munich. Here everyone can enjoy the climate of the South Seas under tropical palm trees. The translucent cupolas made of Makrolon® multi wall sheets covering this spa paradise, the sauna and relaxation zone and the Galaxy slide paradise, create an open air atmosphere that can be opened in just a few minutes when the weather is fine.

Enormous surfaces can be programmed variably
The former headquarters of the Bayer Group is being turned into one of the largest media facades in the world. From the spring of 2009, Bayer will be sending out its messages to the region around Leverkusen from the building, which will consist of a green core of semi-transparent Makrolon® wrapped in a stainless steel fabric with more than 5.6 million LEDs. From outside, there is not yet much to see, "but inside, work on the conversion is progressing at top speed," comments Heiner Springer, Head of Corporate Communications.

Michel Stockman, Venture Manager for opaque coloured sheets at Bayer Sheet Europe, loves a challenge. Neither the Pyrenees nor the Dolomites are too high when he jumps on his bicycle at the weekend or in the holidays. He likes to explore Europe with his wife and sons and has cycled around New Zealand on his racing bike. And if he is not conquering landscapes in sporting fashion, he likes to read in his free time. Recently he particularly enjoyed the bestsellers "The Kite Runner" and "The Shadow of the Wind". Michel Stockman is married and has two grown-up sons.

For cladding or infilling of balcony balustrades and stairway banisters, Makrolon® GP, UV or AR solid sheets are often used because of their variations in colour, pattern and thickness.
Single-face patterned solid Makrolon® sheets are best installed with the patterned face on the inside, thus allowing the natural cleansing of outer faces by rainwater. This also makes the patterning more effective.
In this respect extreme impact resistance is often required as a safeguard. The fire-protection requirements should also be checked.
