Summer, sun, travel time - holiday time
Sun, sand, mountains or sea? You have probably taken time out to think where your holidays will take you this year.
But have you thought of the safety of your flat or your house?
Statistics show that burglaries boom during the holiday period. A small tap with a hammer and the window pane or the terrace door splinters, allowing free entry to your otherwise carefully protected house.
With Makrolon Hygard® safety glazing, you leave nothing to chance and make life very difficult for burglars. Read our article on Hygard® - safety is not mere chance.
Perhaps you are thinking of spending this summer at home, in your own garden, conservatory, veranda, terrace or balcony?
Ultimately your own home and your own garden offer more amenities and luxury than any good holiday hotel. Relax in comfort! Invite family and friends round for a barbecue.
And if a summer storm with rain and hail should blow up?
Don't let the quirks of nature ruin your good spirits. Roofing made of Makrolon® multi wall or solid sheets will protect you and your guests from summer storms, so you can relax and enjoy the party. Our high-performance and break resistant Makrolon® sheets will protect your party from an abrupt end, even from unexpected, heavy hailstorms. It's your party.
Your insurance will reward you with a bonus if you park your valuable car under a carport roofed with Makrolon® sheets. The roof will guarantee you maximum protection from rain and hail while offering an aesthetic appearance. And a carport is a reasonably priced alternative to a solid garage and is much easier to erect.
Whatever your decision, whether you spend your holidays at home or in distant lands, our team at Bayer Sheet Europe wishes you a happy holiday!

In April 2008 the time had finally come. Our distributors were sent an e-mail informing them that the new Sales Handbook was available. You have probably noticed that we have added a touch of colour, firstly to make it easier to read and secondly to help you find products quickly.

Something's afoot between Mannheim and Heilbronn! The town of Sinsheim has a new attraction to offer. The official opening of the Rhein-Neckar Arena opposite the Auto- und Technikmuseum (Automobile and Technology Museum) took place in January 2009. It is located next to the A6 highway, perfectly integrated in the rolling hills of the Kraichgau region. The aspiring football club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim plays its home games here and some games in the women's World Championships will also be held here in 2011. The arena holds around 30,000 spectators who can follow the events in the stadium protected from snow and rain thanks to the roof made of Makrolon® multi wall sheets.

Polycarbonate sheets for drivers' cabins in forestry machines
The polycarbonate Makrolon® from Bayer MaterialScience is an excellent material for the windows of utility vehicles. This is proven by the latest example of driver's cabins for the "E models", a new range of forestry vehicles recently launched in the market by John Deere, the world's leading manufacturer of forestry machinery. The cabins of the harvesters and forwarders are fitted with a total of five large windows made of solid polycarbonate sheets of Makrolon® GP 099 from Bayer Sheet Europe GmbH. Makrolon® is used for car windows because its is easy to form, its potential to reduce weight and its functional integration. In the case of cabins the extremely high driver safety standards tipped the scales in favour of polycarbonate material. Moreover, the windows were not to be flat as in previous cabins, but were to be rounded for reasons of design and for better all round visibility. "Because of these design and safety requirements we were looking for a polycarbonate manufacturer with wide experience in windows for vehicles. Bayer MaterialScience is our chosen partner because the company has extensive know-how across the whole process chain of window manufacture - for example, in construction, thermoforming, scratch-resistant coatings and bonded joints" explains Sven Künstler, Project Manager for E-Cab in the John Deere factory in Bruchsal.

Due to the build up of heat when extruding solid sheets with thicknesses of 8 mm and more, the inherent stresses cannot dissipate completely due to the differing cooling processes in these sheets (on the surfaces or edges).Consequently these stresses cause slight wavy lines to appear at right angles to the direction of extrusion.
These lines are invisible when viewed head on (angle of sight 90º) and are therefore unobtrusive. When viewed aslant or diagonally, the optical effect of these lines is heightened and a fairly distinctive deformation appears. This effect increases with the thickness of the sheet and smaller angles of vision. If this is borne in mind when cutting sheets, these deformation effects can be minimised.
