Welcome back!
The weather was good, the holidays were great, you took a lot of photos and perhaps you have even stuck them in your photo album. It was good to forget the economic crisis for a couple of weeks and to remind yourself that life has more to offer than just daily cares.
We are entering the last 4 months of this eventful year with inspiration and new ideas. You can see some of the inspired ideas our customers have translated into action in the following pages of this newsletter. For example, there is the design and construction of the railway station at Ashgabat in Turkmenistan. The 4-wall multi-wall sheet made of blue-coloured Makrolon® ,blends in harmoniously with traditional building styles and transforms it into a "palace from 1001 Arabian nights"....
You can sense the enthusiasm of the architects of the "DAM pavillion" for our lightweight but very durable products. As part of an exhibition, the well-known architect duo from Berlin, Barkow Leibinger and Werner Sobek from Stuttgart created "The Pavillion - Desire and Polemics in Architecture" - a structure light as a feather, which can be viewed in the German Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt until 20 September 2009.
A further architectural highlight with a "green heart" it is definitely the Weser Stadium in Bremen. The Weser Stadium in Bremen is the first to cover its roof of around 2,500 m2 with transparent Makrolon® modules which contain silicon solar cells with floating encapsulation embedded between two plastic sheets. The aim is to save around 100 W of energy per m2. Ready for the kick-off to the new football season with solar electricity generated on the spot.
A very special highlight is the Fasttube racing car from the Technical University of Berlin. At an annual design competition, students show that Makrolon® puts you in pole position. Take inspiration from our product portfolio and visit our web site www.bayersheeteurope.com/. You are certain to find the right product for all applications or ideas for your customers.
Enjoy the newsletter and we wish you lots of energy, success and fun in the remaining months of this year.

You can hear the roar of the engines from far away and the Formula Student race at the Hockenheimring is underway. Once a year students from around the globe meet to test their ability at the "International Design Competition for Students". The Technical University (TU) of Berlin is also participating with its FaSTTUBe (Formula Student Team of the TU Berlin) team and their latest racing car, the FT2009, fitted with Makrolon® solid sheets.

Ashgabat - the sound conjures up a city from the tales of 1001 Nights. It is actually the capital of Turkmenistan, located in an oasis in the Karakum desert at the foot of the Kopet-Dag Mountains near the border with Iran. The railway station in Ashgabat is an important stopping point for the Transcaspian railway, built by the Russian Empire in the 19th century and connecting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan with the Caspian Sea. From the beginning of 2009 blue Makrolon® multi wall sheets have given the renovated station a new aesthetic look.

The 5th of May 1971 must have been a sunny spring day when Nicole Meyer-Kurczyk first saw the light of the world in the beautiful region of Hesse. And since it is beautiful outside Hesse as well, she soon discovered the call of the big wide world. She still likes to travel the world in her free time, with the USA a particular favourite, where she has gone on various adventure trails with her husband. Of course, holidays are always the right time to go on a discovery tour, but Ms Meyer-Kurczyk also prefers active hobbies in her leisure time, even if leisure time is often a little short. In the past she played handball but now she enjoys cycling or rollerblading along the river Neckar, near her home or racing downhill in the snowy Alps.

Barkow Leibinger Architects Realize a Pavilion with Makrolon® Sheets
Transparent multi-wall and solid sheets made of Makrolon® from Bayer Sheet Europe are the top choice whenever the architectural design calls for a material that is easily shaped, transparent, and lightweight. For the pavilion model that is on display at the German Architecture Museum (Deutsches Architekturmuseum, DAM) in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, from July 11 through September 20, 2009, the renowned Berlin architects Barkow Leibinger and the engineering and design firm Werner Sobek Stuttgart decided in favor of this versatile material. The pavilion, as well as other models, is part of the exhibit „The Pavilion - Pleasure and Polemics in Architecture ("Lust und Polemik in der Architektur"). The exhibit documents the history of these "flying" buildings in the 20th and early 21st century. more...
Whenever the microclimatic conditions (local temperature of the sheet and relative humidity of the air around it) on the inner surface of the sheet reach dew point, there will be condensation on the sheet's surface. In applications where there is high humidity, such as swimming pools or greenhouses, condensation droplets are sometimes unavoidable on untreated surfaces.
