„The reason for its market success is the outstanding property profile that the 6-layer multiwall sheets offer as a transparent and white sheet in the construction industry,“ says Dr. Volker Benz, project engineer at Bayer Sheet Europe; „the material can be cold-bended easily and be inserted in different roof and façade designs without any problems.“ Especially energy-conscious builders, planners, and architects value the energy savings of up to 25 percent, compared to conventional sheets of the same thickness. This corresponds to about 5 liters heating oil or 5.5 cubic meters natural gas (gaseous) per square meter and year.

The sheets have high impact resistance and low weight, yet they offer excellent heat insulation, making the material an ideal choice for large-surface constructions with a design that avoids a massive substructure as support. The UV coating makes the sheets weather-resistant and provides long-term protection against yellowing. The Makrolon® multi UV 6 sheet has proven its qualities in thousands of applications, in industrial construction as well as in residential buildings.

One example out of many is the renovation of the gymnasium of the Gustav-Heinemann School in Rüsselsheim near Frankfurt, Germany. Three longitudinal rows of windows in the roof were modernized with insulating material to reduce energy costs. Within one week, the old material in the window row tunnels, which are almost 20.5 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, was replaced with Makrolon® multi UV 6 sheets. The sheets were delivered flat to the site, where they were cold bent without any problems before being inserted into the subconstruction. Thanks to the excellent insulating properties of the material, the school now saves up to 25 percent energy costs for its gymnasium – a result that is impressive both under financial as well as environmental aspects.
